Description

The Regulatory Project Engineer will serve as a key member of the Government Affairs Team and will ensure that regulatory projects advance for Infiltrator Water Technologies’ (Infiltrator’s) wastewater treatment, drain field, tank, and other product lines.  This position requires a combination of technical knowledge, engineering judgement, legal knowhow, interpersonal skills, relationship building, patience, and persistence.

In parallel, the Regulatory Project Engineer will participate in state and provincial rulemaking, legislation, standards development, compliance, and product launch initiatives for Infiltrator’s North American business.  These processes enhance and expand Infiltrator’s business in the onsite wastewater treatment system sector.

The Regulatory Project Engineer will own and be responsible for the successful implementation of specific product approval projects, product certification initiatives, and other regulatory enhancement programs, reporting to the company’s Regulatory Director.  This role involves project ownership and maintaining rigor and governance.  A key element of the Regulatory Project Engineer role will be effective engagement of internal and external stakeholder concerns. The Regulatory Project Engineer will be expected to provide management, leadership, focus and direction for driving positive results on new product approval requests and efforts to favorably alter the existing regulatory framework.

This role requires internal communication with Infiltrator’s sales, engineering, manufacturing, finance, and customers service groups, in addition to external communication with state, provincial, and county regulatory agencies and product certification and testing organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies for effectively performing regulatory projects
  • Interface with regulatory agencies to gain product approvals
  • Conduct regulatory research, analyze regulations and possible changes to industry requirements, and participate in rulemaking processes
  • Participate in launching new products, including development of product designs
  • Write technical letters and reports pertaining to technical and regulatory issues
  • Develop and maintain product-specific technical literature
  • Support customer and outside sales team technical inquiries
  • Create and manage project plans, including key milestones, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Define project schedules, allocate resources, and monitor progress
  • Align project deliverables, milestones, and objectives with the company goals, and ensure project team is clear on their objectives and deliverables
  • Deliver presentations to customers and regulators on technical topics in small group settings and national trade shows
  • Collaborate with and manage outside technical consultants

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering or technical field, preferably in the consulting engineering industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering or related field, Master’s degree or MBA preferred

  • Involvement with wastewater treatment systems, particularly onsite and/or decentralized systems
  • Understanding of regulated business environments with successful record of regulatory agency interaction
  • Understanding of subsurface environment, including soil and groundwater issues
  • Excellent technical writing skills and capable of clear verbal communication in both individual and group settings
  • Adept at independent problem solving and developing strong business relationships with a range of individuals and organizations that are key to the company’s operations
  • Skilled listener with ability to read and understand other people
